- 1 cup long-grain white rice not instant or brown
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 8 ounces chicken broth
- 8 ounces whole milk
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Rinse the rice in a fine-mesh sieve under cold water to remove surface starches. This helps the rice cook up fluffy with separate grains.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant and lightly browned.
Stir in the rice, chicken broth, milk, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer, then cover the pan and reduce the heat to low.
Cook for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed. Avoid lifting the lid frequently to retain steam.
Remove the pan from heat. Stir in the Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley.
Fluff the rice gently with a fork and serve warm.
Substituting Brown Rice: Brown rice requires a longer cooking time (up to 45 minutes) and may need an extra splash of water. Follow package instructions for best results.
Liquid-to-Rice Ratio: This recipe uses a 2:1 liquid-to-rice ratio. Keep the heat low and avoid removing the lid often to prevent drying out. If the pan looks dry before the rice is fully cooked, lower the heat further and add ¼ cup of water.
Storing Leftovers: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days. Reheat gently on the stove or microwave, adding a splash of broth or milk to restore creaminess.
